Job Description

Job Summary:

At Children's Harbor, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Educator to join our team as a Substitute Teacher. As a Substitute Teacher, you will be responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that meet the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of each child in the group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Management:
    • Maintain accurate supervision and records on all children, including attendance, behavior, accidents, assessments, and evaluations.
    • Ensure dependable and reliable attendance.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Transport and supervise children as needed.
  • Program/Curriculum:
    • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that meet the needs of each child.
    • Assist team members in developing and implementing lesson plans and activities.
    • Coordinate lesson plans and activities with team members.
    • Carry out childcare routines in a safe and healthy manner.
    • Identify the developmental level of each child through observations and assessments.
  • Child Interactions:
    • Build trust and rapport with children.
    • Foster a positive self-concept in children.
    • Encourage independence and self-control in children.
    • Respect the individual needs of each child.
    • Model appropriate behaviors and attitudes.
    • Communicate effectively with children.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Establish routines and procedures to promote positive behavior in children.
    • Provide positive feedback to reinforce good behavior.
    • Redirect children experiencing difficulties.
    • Model positive behavior management strategies.
  • Environment:
    • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
    • Monitor and report maintenance and repair needs for the classroom.
    • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment.
  • Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with parents and staff.
    • Provide parents with information about their child's development and activities.
    • Communicate with administrative staff regarding parent concerns.
    • Write clear and concise communications.

Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Ability to implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • High tolerance for change and adaptability.
