Job Title: Occupational Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our team at Elma School District. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in helping students with physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities to develop the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist will work closely with students, teachers, and other school staff to identify and address the needs of students with disabilities. This will involve assessing students' functional development level, maximizing their functional level by providing information for program development and placement, improving their performance, and providing information on child development and/or issues for specific students to instructional personnel.

Responsibilities:
  • Screen and evaluate children referred for occupational therapy, focusing on visual-perceptual skills, gross and fine motor skills, self-care, sensory integration, and normal growth and development as they pertain to school and home settings.
  • Establish and implement a treatment program to achieve established goals and objectives, developed through the Individualized Education Programming.
  • Work closely with special education teachers, speech therapists, physical therapists, parents, and educational assistants as part of a transdisciplinary teaching model.
  • Consult with classroom personnel, families, medical professionals, and staff and students in regular education programs to promote integration and cooperation.
  • Maintain written records and submitted reports for each student.
  • Make use of building/district resources and support personnel.
  • Communicate program rationale and procedures to staff, community, and parents.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Special Services Administrator.
Requirements:
  • A valid Washington State Education Staff Associate Certificate as Occupational Therapist.
  • WSP/FBI fingerprint background clearance (fee paid by the employee).
  • A valid WA Driver's License, with the ability to provide an automobile for on-the-job use.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and other school personnel, and meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Significant physical abilities may include lifting/carrying acuity/depth perception/accommodations/field of vision.

  • Background knowledge or experience in the area of physical education.
