Job Title: Director of Fiscal Operations

Job Summary:

The Director of Fiscal Operations will oversee and manage the financial operations of Durham Public Schools, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and maintaining a robust and effective internal control environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and supervise assigned programs and staff
  • Oversee and supervise the maintenance, control, and analysis of fiscal operations
  • Review all accounting entries for accuracy and approve documents in accordance with fiscal policies
  • Serve as district bank administrator and point of contact for external auditors
  • Investigate issues with bank reconciliations and reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Coordinate process for year-end close out and to open new accounting fiscal year
  • Monitor financial file transmissions to outside agencies monthly
  • Resolve issues with banking institutions and software vendors
  • Collaborate and invest district funds to ensure adequate returns on investments
  • Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
  • Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
  • Facilitate the development of the department's improvement plan

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or related area required
  • Ability to obtain/hold/maintain a NC School Business Officer Certification preferred
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education

Working Conditions:

Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force. Work regularly requires exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication. Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment. Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work. Ability to move to other work locations. Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications.
