We are a dynamic and innovative diner located on the Rowan University campus, serving classic diner fare with a touch of creativity. Our team is passionate about delivering an exceptional dining experience, and we are seeking a skilled Sous Chef to join our kitchen team.
Job SummaryThe Sous Chef will support the Executive Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu development, staff management, food quality and safety, and day-to-day operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced culinary professional to contribute to our dynamic kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities- Menu Execution: Assist in the preparation and execution of menu items, ensuring dishes are served to the highest quality and consistency.
- Staff Supervision: Assist in training, managing, and motivating kitchen staff, including line cooks and prep cooks. Provide guidance and support to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
- Food Preparation: Oversee food preparation and cooking processes. Ensure proper portion control and presentation of all dishes.
- Inventory Management: Assist in managing kitchen inventory and supplies. Monitor stock levels and place orders as needed to ensure kitchen efficiency.
- Health and Safety: Ensure adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards. Conduct regular checks to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
- Quality Control: Inspect dishes before they leave the kitchen to ensure they meet quality standards. Address any issues related to food quality promptly.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a kitchen environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role. Experience in a diner or similar establishment is preferred.
- Education: Culinary degree or equivalent experience is desirable.
- Skills: Strong culinary skills with a solid understanding of classic diner cuisine. Excellent leadership and organizational abilities. Capable of multitasking and working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications: Food safety certification or other relevant culinary certifications are a plus.
