Job Summary

The Anchorage School District is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to maintain the cleanliness and organization of our schools. As an Unassigned Custodian, you will be responsible for ensuring the facilities are safe and well-maintained, while also providing excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting, to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment, including vacuum cleaners, mops, and cleaning solutions.
  • Assist in securing the facility at the end of the day, including turning out lights and locking doors and windows.
  • Monitor the building for safety and report any needed repairs to the proper authorities.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors, responding to their needs and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
  • Some experience related to custodial work.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to work any shift, including morning, evening, or night shifts.
  • A current Alaska driver's license.
  • Ability to travel to any location within the Anchorage School District as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months of successful responsible custodial experience.
  • Knowledge of the safe and effective use of common electrical cleaning equipment.
  • Skill for efficient use of time, motion, tools, equipment, and supplies to produce quality work on time.
  • Ability to use simple math and dilution ratios to properly dilute concentrated chemicals.
Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities, and abilities. The employee may be regularly exposed to a video display and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
