Job Summary

As a Police Officer at University Hospitals, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol hospital campuses to deter and detect criminal activity, respond to calls for service, and protect persons and property.
  • Document allegations of crime, interview witnesses and victims, and collect physical evidence.
  • Enforce laws by arrest or non-arrest dispositions, and testify in court as needed.
  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service, and efficiently use discretionary patrol time for self-initiated work.
  • Investigate crimes by obtaining witness statements, collecting evidence, and processing crime scenes.
  • Write reports on alleged criminal incidents, follow-up investigations, arrests, and juvenile records.
  • Prepare criminal charges, handle prisoners, and respond to special attention requests.

Requirements
  • High School Equivalent/GED required.
  • Thorough knowledge of accepted practices of delivering police service, human relation techniques, and state and local laws.
  • Training and proficiency in firearms, defensive tactics, less lethal force equipment, LEADS, domestic violence, and legal updates.
  • Ability to render credible testimony in a court of law, and effectively communicate orally.
  • Valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission's Peace Officer Certificate required.

Working Conditions
  • Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
