Role Overview:

An automotive lot coordinator, also known as a lot technician or lot porter, is essential in ensuring the organization and aesthetic appeal of a car dealership or automotive service center's parking area. This position encompasses various tasks necessary for the smooth operation of daily business activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizing vehicles on the lot in a systematic and accessible manner, which may involve relocating cars, trucks, or other vehicles as required.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the lot by removing debris, snow, and ice, which includes shoveling snow, salting icy surfaces, and disposing of litter.
  • Performing basic vehicle inspections to confirm proper parking and to check for any damage, flat tires, or other concerns.
  • Refueling vehicles as necessary, particularly those available for sale or test drives.
  • Preparing vehicles for test drives, which may involve cleaning the interior, checking fluid levels, and ensuring the vehicle is in optimal working condition.
  • Engaging with customers visiting the lot to view or test drive vehicles, providing basic information or directing them to the appropriate sales or service personnel.
  • Managing vehicle keys, ensuring they are securely stored and accounted for.
  • Assisting in the movement of vehicles within the dealership, such as transferring them between lots or delivering them to the service department.
  • Carrying out minor maintenance tasks, including checking and inflating tires and jump-starting vehicles.
  • Supporting other departments within the dealership, such as assisting the service department with basic tasks as needed.
  • Conducting dealer swaps and registration runs on an as-needed basis.
  • Performing any additional duties assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Familiarity with automotive financing and leasing options.
  • Knowledge of vehicle features and specifications.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Sales certifications or training may be advantageous.
  • A customer-focused approach and a passion for the automotive industry.
  • Intermediate computer and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English.

Physical Demands:

Employees must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods. They should be able to use their hands to handle controls or feel objects, tools, or equipment, and repeat the same movements for up to 7 hours a day. Occasionally, they may need to lift boxes weighing up to 10 lbs. Bending, walking, and mobility will be necessary. Employees must be able to enter and exit vehicles and assist with snow removal when required. The ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop/bend, and reach is essential. Clear verbal communication is required for extended periods, up to 7-8 hours a day.
