Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Marine Equipment Technician with hands-on experience in the installation and maintenance of various ship systems, including propulsion machinery and auxiliary equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain new ship equipment, including motors, pumps, compressors, air conditioning systems, and steering gear.
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on commercial marine engines and gearboxes.
  • Perform fault diagnosis on fuel oil, lubricating oil, air, and filtration systems.
  • Work with propeller shaft coupling systems, mounts, and alignment.
  • Fit and maintain engine room piping systems, including overboard and sea suction lines.
  • Demonstrate fundamental electrical knowledge related to machinery operating systems.
  • Understand generators and their control systems, including single and three-phase outputs.
  • Maintain hydraulic systems for vessel steering gear and deck equipment.
  • Dismantle defective machinery to access problem areas using hand or power tools.
  • Inspect and measure components to identify wear or misalignment.
  • Replace worn or defective parts following blueprints and service manuals.
  • Realign components such as spindles and clutches according to specifications.
  • Locate and repair damaged air and hydraulic pipes.
  • Test machinery operation post-repair, ensuring understanding of operating pressures and temperatures.
  • Utilize brazing, soldering, and welding techniques for repairs.
  • Work from design drawings and ensure safe isolation of equipment during maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Fitter, with time-served qualifications.
  • Hands-on experience with welding tools and techniques.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Commitment to adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Strong mathematical skills.

Additional Information

We offer a competitive remuneration package, including 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, a pension scheme, and a discount voucher program. This is a full-time position with a 38-hour work week. Comprehensive training and support will be provided as necessary. Salary ranges from £25,000 to £28,000, depending on skills and experience, with regular opportunities for overtime at premium rates.
