We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the University of Miami. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our clinical research and development efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the clinical investigational drug (CID) inventory, including ordering, receiving, organizing, and monitoring the use of CID.
- Provide technical assistance with clinical trial protocol and utilize knowledge of equipment and other technical skills.
- Manage and triage pharmacy phone calls with appropriate telephone etiquette.
- Maintain and record both physical and electronic information and assist in the record keeping related to clinical trials required by the study protocols.
- Prepare or compound extemporaneous products using appropriate technique under supervision of pharmacist.
- Prepack medication into appropriate single unit of issue as needed, following proper guidelines.
- Prepare sterile intravenous chemotherapy or biohazardous products in accordance with established procedures and following aseptic techniques with particular emphasis on the safe handling of injectable cytotoxic drugs and biohazardous agents.
- Participate in monthly audits of CID inventory.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of pharmacy sterile compounding suites in accordance with USP Chapter 797, USP Chapter 800, Florida Board of Pharmacy rules, and all applicable UMHC policies.
- Maintain the clinical investigational drug work area clean, organized, and presentable at all times.
- Organize a study binder for each trial with sections for all required documentation.
- Assist pharmacist in training of pharmacy staff and ensuring the ongoing skills development of technical staff.
- Assist and perform quality improvement and quality assurance implementation as they relate to Investigational Drug Services by performing regular internal audits and drug accountability logs.
- Maintain proper functioning of equipment used by Investigational Drug Services.
- Work in compliance of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies, and contraventions of the Act in a timely manner.
- Oversee and instruct pharmacy learners (pharmacy students and residents) as it relates to clinical research pharmaceutical services.
- Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- State of FL Pharmacy Technician certification.
