ROLE SUMMARY
The Surgical Nursing Assistant, under the supervision of a physician or Registered Nurse, is responsible for managing the instruments, supplies, and equipment required during surgical operations. This position demands a thorough understanding of surgical procedures to effectively anticipate and meet the needs of the surgical team, ensuring high-quality patient care throughout the operation while maintaining a sterile environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare and organize the surgical environment for procedures.
2. Collect, verify, and arrange necessary supplies and equipment for surgeries.
3. Establish a sterile surgical field with the required instruments, supplies, and medications.
4. Assist in draping the patient and setting up the sterile field, including supporting team members with proper gowning and gloving.
5. Perform skilled tasks and provide assistance during surgical procedures under the guidance of the lead surgeon.
6. Prepare, label, and transfer specimens as needed.
7. Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization and assist in the terminal cleaning of the operating room.
8. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and debriefing sessions to enhance patient care.
9. Mentor and orient new staff and students as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
This role is open to candidates at the entry level, with comprehensive training provided for those selected.
Required Qualifications
- Current licensure as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in North Carolina or a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
