Job Summary

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in our Surgical Scrub role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the highest quality patient care during surgical procedures. Under the direction of a physician and/or Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment, as well as anticipating and assisting with the needs of the surgeon.

Responsibilities and Scope
  • Prepare and stage the surgical environment/operating room (OR) for surgical procedures.
  • Gather, check, and open supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Stage sterile surgical field with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for surgical procedure.
  • Assist with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field. Assist team members with gowning and gloving.
  • Perform manually dexterous tasks and assistance during surgical procedures under the direction of the attending surgeon.
  • Prepare, label, and hand off specimens as appropriate.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization. Assist other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room. Assist in prepping the OR for the next patient.
  • Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
  • Precept entry-level staff, students, and/or orient new colleagues as assigned.
Qualifications

This position is open to entry-level candidates. Extensive training will be provided to hired entry-level candidates.

  • Licensed as a Practical Nurse (LPN) by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or one of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) states.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
