Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lactation Consultant to join our team at Beacon Health System. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing lactation management services to expectant and new parents, as well as conducting breast-feeding training sessions and overseeing the retail sale of breastfeeding-related equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Lactation Management Services: Provide lactation management services to in-patient breastfeeding patients, including creating a supportive environment for learning and conducting bedside lactation rounds.
  • Conduct Breastfeeding Training Sessions: Teach breastfeeding skills to expectant and new mothers, as well as provide educational programs for individuals and groups of various ages.
  • Oversee Retail Sales: Select and manage the sale of breastfeeding-related equipment, including breast pumps and other supplies.
  • Consult with Mothers: Consult with mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties, providing guidance and support to help them overcome challenges.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Providers: Communicate with physicians and practitioners regarding breastfeeding issues and provide referrals to outside resources as needed.
Organizational Responsibilities
  • Attend Department Meetings: Participate in department meetings and stay informed about organizational requirements and expectations.
  • Complete Mandatory Education: Complete annual education and competency requirements, as well as maintain current licensure and certification.
  • Adhere to Regulatory Requirements: Comply with regulatory agency requirements, survey processes, and organizational policies.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A minimum of two years of successful clinical experience in mother/child nursing, with a valid and current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana.
  • Certification: Current professional certification as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is required or must be obtained within two years of hire.
  • Knowledge and Skills: In-depth knowledge of lactation principles and practices, as well as the ability to teach breastfeeding skills and work effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
