Job Overview

Position: Culinary Specialist

Employment Type: Full-time

Location: Cheyenne VA Medical Center

Key Responsibilities:

  • Culinary Expertise:

Prepare an array of dishes utilizing techniques such as grilling, baking, roasting, and steaming. Create cold sandwich fillings, assemble sandwiches, and work with a variety of ingredients including fresh, canned, and frozen vegetables, as well as pre-prepared cookie dough and muffin batters.

  • Food Preparation:

Execute tasks such as washing, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables, mixing salad components, and preparing desserts. Engage in diverse food preparation activities including chopping, grinding, slicing, and pureeing.

  • Ingredient Oversight:

Measure and combine ingredients for standard and modified diets, ensuring consistency and quality in all food offerings.

  • Food Safety and Storage:

Adhere to safety protocols for equipment usage, and monitor and manage food supplies at the necessary levels throughout the facility.

  • Documentation and Software Utilization:

Employ Computrition software to generate essential documents such as patient tray tickets, production sheets, and nourishment lists.

  • Cleaning and Sanitation:

Operate dishwashing machinery, maintain cleanliness of equipment, dispose of waste and recycling, report pest sightings to management, and uphold strict security and patient confidentiality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in culinary techniques and various cooking methods
  • Knowledgeable about food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Experienced in using kitchen equipment and documentation software
  • Capable of accurately following recipes and menus
  • Preferred: ServSafe Food Handlers Certification
  • Previous experience in a similar capacity is advantageous
