Refrigeration Systems Technician - Mobile Equipment Maintenance

Position Overview:
A Refrigeration Systems Technician at Penske Logistics will be responsible for diagnosing, overhauling, adjusting, and repairing various motor truck and trailer equipment, with a primary emphasis on maintaining refrigeration units designed for commercial vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive maintenance services, focusing on refrigeration units such as Carrier and Thermo King systems utilized in commercial trucks and trailers.
  • Utilize electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing equipment to assess lines, components, and connections.
  • Interpret complex schematics related to refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Identify and document warrantable repairs on service orders.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform road tests on vehicles as needed to diagnose issues or confirm proper functionality.
  • Execute tasks independently and efficiently.
  • Employ hand tools, including screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools like pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and hoists.
  • Provide additional support for preventative maintenance and tractor-trailer upkeep as directed by management.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure compliance with factory specifications.
  • Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in tractor-trailer maintenance is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Vocational/Technical training or certification is preferred.
  • Specialized training and experience in refrigeration component overhaul are essential.
  • ASE Certification is preferred.
  • 608/609 certifications are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in using all necessary tools of the trade is required.
  • A current CDL license with air brake certification is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, are necessary.
  • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment is essential.
  • Compliance with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, and regulations established by management is required.
  • Adherence to DOT, OSHA, and all safety and maintenance policies is mandatory.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a fundamental aspect of the role.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and work the required schedule is expected.

  • Capability to work safely in all weather conditions is necessary.
  • Must be able to see and hear to navigate the work environment safely, given the frequent movement of large trucks.
  • Regularly lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg) is required.
