Academic Coach Position at Steele Canyon Charter High School

As an Academic Coach at Steele Canyon Charter High School, you will play a vital role in cultivating a safe and supportive learning environment for students. You will work closely with students to develop their academic and life skills, including social and emotional awareness, organizational efficiency, and study skills. Your primary goal will be to support students in becoming self-directed learners.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, providing individualized support and guidance.
- Collaborate with the CXL Team to design and implement academic and life skills programs.
- Assist students in setting and achieving academic goals, providing strategies and resources to support their success.
- Provide one-on-one and small group instruction in various subjects, adapting to the needs of each student.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and research-based strategies.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A High School Diploma and at least one of the following:
- A BA or AA Degree (preferred)
- Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester units with transcripts provided)
- Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction (CBEST - California Basic Educational Skills Test or Paraprofessional Test)
- Creative and strategic thinking skills to assist student endeavors.
- Ability to think quickly and show patience with students.
- The ability to take initiative in helping students identify academic goals and strategies to reach those goals.
- Current TB clearance and fingerprint screening prior to employment.
We encourage candidates with a background in teaching, counseling, or social work to apply. Knowledge of all subjects, teaching techniques, and bilingual skills are a plus.
Work ScheduleThis is a part-time position, with no more than 28 hours per week. The schedule is flexible, with hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Periodically, Coaches attend staff meetings on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
