Job Summary

Sovah Health - Danville is seeking a skilled Recreational Therapist to join our Behavioral Health Unit team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in evaluating and providing therapeutic activities for patients, promoting socialization, and encouraging leisure activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients' needs and develop individualized treatment plans in conjunction with primary care counselors.
  • Conduct assessments and establish recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups, observing patient response and encouraging socialization.
  • Implement treatment plans using appropriate modalities and evaluate patient progress.
  • Monitor and modify treatment plans as needed, seeking consultation when necessary.
  • Plan and assist with patient discharge from therapy services and treatment settings.
  • Provide patients and their families with information regarding leisure lifestyles and create awareness of recreational resources in their community.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy or a related therapeutic discipline.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns, including weekends and holidays.
  • License from the Virginia State Board to practice in the area of specialty (preferred).
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification required within one year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association (AHA) certification required.
  • One year of experience in a psychiatric or healthcare setting (preferred).
