Job Opportunity

MDPerm is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in a detention setting. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide comprehensive and compassionate care to individuals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide acute, emergent, and chronic healthcare to patients in compliance with MDPerm policy and guidance, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive history and physical evaluations, behavioral health care, and minor outpatient surgical procedures as required by the medical condition.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, and provide treatment throughout the lifespan as appropriate to discipline and facility setting.
  • Participate in and comply with court-ordered treatment plans, including evaluation and treatment of patients with psychiatric illness or life-threatening conditions.
  • Provide full-spectrum healthcare to include treatment of gender dysphoria and pregnancy.
  • Consult with staff physicians, clinical directors, and/or MDPerm consultants as required by policy and for complex medical and/or psychiatric patients.
  • Provide infirmary care, including admission, discharge, and daily rounds for patients requiring a higher level of care and monitoring.
  • Interpret Tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) and diagnostic studies, manage Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) for treatment of active or latent tuberculosis.
  • Take appropriate infection control actions in accordance with MDPerm policy and guidance.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and properly dispose of all sharps and infectious waste.
  • Provide relevant patient health education to detainees verbally and/or with handouts.
  • Assist with preparation for accreditation and ongoing compliance with standards as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Family Nurse Practitioner program.
  • One-year full-time equivalent of experience in primary care as a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license.
  • Board Certification by either NCCPA, AANC, or AANP.
  • Unrestricted license to prescribe controlled medications from the DEA and in the state where the duty station is located.
  • Basic Life Support for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association, CPR for the professional rescuer through the American Red Cross, or the American Safety and Health Institute.
Work Environment
  • This position requires availability to work both day and evening shifts and availability during weekends and holidays.
  • This position requires rotational on-call duties and may necessitate a return to the facility to provide care. On-call hours are compensated.
