Automation Systems Engineer
As the Technical Lead for Automation Engineering, you will drive significant advancements in manufacturing processes and ongoing enhancement projects across our automation systems related to tipping, lining, assembly, and press operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and mentor the Automation Technical team, enhancing their skills in equipment diagnostics, repairs, and changeovers.
- Optimize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by reducing downtime, ensuring high-quality output, minimizing scrap rates, and maintaining optimal equipment functionality while facilitating effective team communication.
- Provide essential support to the maintenance and automation teams, offering insights on preventative maintenance and major refurbishments for production and facility machinery.
- Diagnose automation challenges, collaborating with plant personnel and suppliers to quickly restore equipment functionality within budget constraints.
- Work closely with the Maintenance team, providing expertise in hydraulic and electrical repairs on non-automation machinery as required.
- Deliver timely solutions for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and PLC-related issues, ensuring a smooth production flow.
- Manage procurement processes for critical parts, equipment, and components, contributing to uninterrupted production operations.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives by identifying automation requirements, exploring alternative solutions, and enhancing operational efficiency.
- Ensure strict compliance with plant safety protocols and 5S initiatives, proactively identifying and mitigating safety risks while monitoring work quality.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, maintaining high operational standards.
- Collaborate with plant management on technical issues related to machinery maintenance and automation performance.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager on ongoing maintenance activities, utilizing our IQS database to maintain comprehensive machine records.
- Validate secondary operations equipment and drive the implementation of programs aimed at improving quality and productivity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5 years in plastics injection molding engineering, or an Associate's Degree with 7 years of relevant experience.
- Practical experience in assembly automation, injection molding engineering, and secondary automation, with a solid understanding of PLC programming and electrical controls.
- Knowledge of mechanical and design aspects of automation, including general machining capabilities.
- Commitment to exceeding customer and organizational expectations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a detail-oriented approach to meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in installation and operation validations, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
