The Aquatic Programs Manager will oversee the swim lesson initiatives, ensuring they operate smoothly and evolve based on observations, best practices, and feedback from both instructors and participants. Additionally, this position will assist in the management and utilization of the District's aquatic facilities, prioritizing the safety, convenience, and enjoyment of all patrons.
POSITION DETAILS
- Job Title: Aquatic Programs Manager
- Location: District-wide
- Schedule: Full-Time; Exempt
- Work Environment: Varied schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, with hours fluctuating based on program requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Statement of Duties: Support the Aquatics Supervisor in the planning, execution, and organization of recreational programs and services while actively participating in frontline roles to provide high-quality recreational opportunities for the community. Responsibilities include:
- Supervising and conducting aquatic programs to meet departmental and community service objectives.
- Coordinating and instructing American Red Cross Group and Private Swim lessons, delegating tasks to part-time staff and supplementing their efforts as needed.
- Communicating with program participants and instructors regarding class updates, cancellations, and other pertinent information.
- Assisting with the operations of the High Country Swim League, including the organization of swim meets and supervision of swim coaches.
- Managing day-to-day facility operations to ensure safety and proper functioning.
- Monitoring pool mechanical systems and performing general maintenance tasks.
- Testing and maintaining water chemistry in compliance with health regulations.
- Hiring, training, and scheduling part-time staff while conducting performance reviews to enhance program quality.
- Facilitating aquatic personnel training sessions.
- Overseeing the seasonal opening and closing of outdoor aquatic facilities.
- Responding to emergencies as a certified lifeguard and filling in lifeguard shifts as necessary.
- Ensuring exceptional customer service is provided through aquatic programs and facilities.
- Assisting with marketing and promotional efforts for programs.
- Attending required meetings and training sessions.
- Gathering community feedback to develop new programs that align with the District's mission.
- Assisting in budget development and monitoring program revenues and expenditures.
- Maintaining accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Collecting data on aquatic programs for review.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge: Proven ability to organize, lead, and motivate staff in lifeguarding, swim instruction, or facility maintenance.
Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with pool operations and chemical safety.
- Experience in teaching and mentoring staff and participants.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
- Knowledge of health department standards for pool maintenance.
- Capability to make swift decisions and resolve conflicts.
- Proficiency in lifeguarding skills and emergency response.
- Effective communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
- Understanding of facilities management and customer service principles.
- Adaptability to new technologies and practices in the aquatics field.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three years of experience in aquatics (preferred) or one year supervising aquatics or recreation staff.
- Any satisfactory combination of experience and training.
Certifications:
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification (required).
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification (required).
- Ability to obtain Lifeguard Instructor certification within six months.
- Ability to obtain CPO/AFO certification within three months.
