Position Summary
Birdon America, Inc. is looking for a Senior Pipe Fitter to contribute expertise at our shipyard. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply your skills in the construction of a new vessel for the Coast Guard.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpretation of piping schematics, isometric drawings, and installation plans, with a clear understanding of symbols and reference points.
- Ability to comprehend reference data and general notes on technical drawings.
- Execute verbal and written instructions from supervisors effectively.
- Proficient in using all hand and power tools relevant to the trade.
- Identify pipe dimensions, schedules, and various materials.
- Understand both standard and metric measurements and perform necessary calculations related to the trade.
- Recognize different types of pipe fittings by their symbols and possess knowledge of various valve types and their functionalities (e.g., Gate, Globe, Butterfly, Check, Knife).
- Fabricate pipe spools for Butt Weld, Socket Weld, and Threaded systems using appropriate fitting techniques.
- Measure and fabricate systems based on field run requirements, ensuring accuracy in fit-up techniques.
- Construct and install diverse support structures for piping systems, understanding proper hanger spacing.
- Conduct pneumatic and hydrostatic testing of systems, comprehending their operational mechanics.
- Work independently with minimal oversight.
- Train junior staff through on-the-job training, emphasizing safety and proper procedures.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry as a pipe fitter.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Possession of essential tools required for pipe fitting tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Capable of standing, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and entering confined spaces regularly.
