Utility Maintenance Specialist

As a Utility Person at American Water, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and repair of underground water mains and distribution pipes. This includes locating, laying, repairing, and extending underground water mains and distribution pipes, as well as other work assigned by the supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
* Set up barricades and safety lights around work sites to protect workers from street traffic.
* Break up asphalt and concrete using pneumatic power tools for trenching and compaction.
* Manually dig up valve boxes and curb boxes using shovels and digging bars.
* Guide pipe sections, valves, and fittings into position and hold pieces steady while tightening connections.
* Tap into pressurized water mains, flare, and connect copper piping.
* Install repair clamps on pressurized water mains and service lines.
* Operate valves and fire hydrants, investigate complaints, and determine corrective action per Company procedure.
* Operate pneumatic and/or hydraulic boring equipment, complete necessary forms, sketches, and field notes, and be knowledgeable of usage of maps and records.
* Drive vehicles and/or trucks in performance of general job, including housekeeping of vehicles.
Requirements
* High School diploma or state-recognized Educational Equivalency Certificate.
* College degree desirable.
* Valid Driver's License and ability to pass motor vehicle background check.
