The St. Louis Jewish Community Center (the J) has been a cornerstone of health and cultural engagement for over 140 years. Our members and participants benefit from top-notch facilities and a variety of programs, arts, and sports activities. The J is seeking dedicated instructors to lead evening group fitness classes, including High Intensity Interval Training, Strength and Conditioning, Tabata, Cardio Kickboxing, and TRX. This is a part-time role at our Chesterfield Gym and Fitness Center, with eligibility for a fitness membership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional and professional service to our members, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Design and implement safe, engaging, and effective group fitness programs that meet the standards set by the J and/or recognized national fitness certification organizations. Be prepared to modify programs as necessary to address the needs and safety concerns of participants.
- Correct improper techniques when observed or requested.
- Promote group fitness, personal training, and other relevant programs to our members. Communicate the benefits of group exercise and demonstrate the value of the program. Stay informed about current fitness promotions and programs available at the J.
- Arrive on time and be ready to start classes promptly.
- Act as a role model and leader for participants, maintaining a positive attitude and adhering to the policies of the J.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and tidy group exercise studio. Ensure all equipment is returned to its designated place after class; turn off audio equipment and secure all areas when classes are not in session.
- Inform Group Exercise Managers of any equipment that requires repair or replacement.
- Become knowledgeable about J policies, procedures, programs, and equipment. Enforce J rules and policies.
- Accurately record work hours in the designated system.
- Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
- Continue to enhance knowledge in health and fitness, including training provided by the J.
- Assist with Fitness Center promotions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Current nationally recognized certification for the format you are applying to teach is essential.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification for the Professional Rescuer is required; training will be provided if necessary.
- Preferred: Six months of prior teaching experience.
- Must be physically capable of leading classes (demonstrating techniques and guiding the group through the program).
- Strong listening and verbal communication skills are necessary.
- Exhibit leadership qualities in a professional and engaging manner.
- Demonstrated commitment to improving the health and fitness of our members through safe and effective exercise leadership.
- Ability to build networks and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required, along with the ability to learn new software programs.
