Position: Clinical Psychologist – Behavioral Health Optimization Program (BHOP)

Overview:

The Clinical Psychologist plays a vital role in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) environment, serving as a full-time provider in the capacity of an internal behavioral health consultant (IBHC) and/or Behavioral Health Care Facilitator (BHCF). This position is integral to the implementation of the DoDI Integration of Behavioral Health Personnel Services into Patient-Centered Medical Home Primary Care and other Primary Care Service Settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete the Air Force care facilitator training successfully, demonstrating core competency skills for independent practice within the designated timeframe.
  • Engage in an interactive, computer-based training program lasting approximately three days, fulfilling all training requirements prior to patient care services.
  • Contact referred patients to evaluate adherence to medication treatments for conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
  • Utilize validated brief symptom inventories to gauge current symptom severity effectively.
  • Identify barriers to treatment adherence and assist patients in problem-solving these challenges.
  • Provide comprehensive education to patients regarding their behavioral health conditions and treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate patient information within a patient registry.
  • Document all patient interactions in electronic medical records for review by the supervising physician.
  • Perform essential case management functions to support patient care.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of experience within the last three years is required.
  • Experience in evaluating and treating patients with pain, psychological factors affecting their physical health, or challenges in coping with medical issues is essential.
  • Must possess at least one year of experience as a licensed clinical psychologist.

Knowledge:

  • At least 12 months of direct, hands-on experience with computer operations, basic word processing, data entry, and automated medical record systems within the last 24 months is necessary.

Education:

  • A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program is required.
  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship/residency in professional psychology or an acceptable equivalent is mandatory.

Licensure:

  • A current license to practice psychology in any of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands is required.
