Pediatric Speech-Language Specialist

St Petersburg, United States The Kidz Club Full time
Position: Pediatric Speech-Language Specialist at The Kidz Club
About Our Organization:
The Kidz Club is dedicated to delivering exceptional and intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy services to children at our Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) center. We cater to medically-complex children, ranging from infants to young adults, ensuring they receive the necessary skilled nursing care.
To learn more about our mission and services, please visit our website.

Role Expectations:
As a Pediatric Speech-Language Specialist, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience in pediatric feeding and both high- and low-tech augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, as these areas constitute a significant portion of our caseload. Our therapy approach is primarily early intervention and play-based.
The children we serve vary widely, from NICU-discharged infants to young adults with mobility challenges. Comfort in treating this diverse population is essential for success in this role.
Interdisciplinary collaboration is a key focus in our facility. You will be expected to work effectively with other professionals, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, behavior analysts, nurses, and caregivers, while being familiar with basic medical terminology and procedures.
Our clientele includes medically-complex children, some of whom may exhibit behavioral challenges. A strong understanding of therapeutic interventions for unique cases and the ability to manage disruptive behaviors is crucial.
We operate on a fee-for-service model, which means you will be compensated for the hours you directly engage with each child. This structure offers flexibility in your schedule, but it also requires a strong work ethic, self-motivation, and effective time management skills.
Above all, we seek individuals with a friendly demeanor, quick thinking, a passion for assisting children with special needs, and a commitment to continuous learning.
For Clinical Fellow applicants: We are currently not accepting clinical fellows unless their most recent externship was completed in a pediatric hospital or PPEC environment. A reference call with the externship supervisor will be part of the interview process in such cases.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluate and diagnose a range of speech, language, and feeding disorders for clients aged birth to 21.
  2. Create tailored treatment plans based on comprehensive assessments to address communication and swallowing challenges.
  3. Implement evidence-based practices during therapy sessions customized to each client's needs.
  4. Ensure timely and thorough documentation and treatment planning.
  5. Educate and guide clients, families, and caregivers on strategies for effective therapy at home.
  6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care for clients.
  7. Stay updated with advancements in the field through ongoing education and professional development.
  8. Adhere to ethical and professional standards set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and state licensing boards.
Qualifications:
  1. Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited institution, ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), and state licensure from the Florida Department of Health.
  2. Clinical experience with the pediatric population, particularly in medical settings, is highly preferred.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  4. Proficiency in using standardized assessment tools, therapeutic techniques, and relevant assistive technologies.
  5. Commitment to maintaining professional competency and adhering to HIPAA regulations and ethical standards.
  6. Current CPR (BLS) certification.
Benefits: (for full-time, W2 employees)
  • Flexible scheduling options, allowing you to determine start/end times and daily patient scheduling, provided productivity goals are met. Weekend hours are available for those interested, but not mandatory.
  • Increased compensation for evaluations and re-evaluations.
  • 401K plan and Student Loan Reimbursement.
  • Health Benefits or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).
  • Vision and Dental Insurance.
  • Life Insurance (Basic and Voluntary).
  • Long-Term Care Insurance with Death Benefit.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for Dependent Care.
