Job Description

As a Registered Nurse at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team.

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team by establishing a personalized relationship with patients and their support systems, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care that promote optimal health.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preoperative interviews and assessments to identify patient needs and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Provide preoperative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities to patients and their families.
  • Describe the perioperative experience to patients and their families, and provide teaching regarding preoperative instructions.
  • Perform nursing assessments via telephone interview and consult with anesthesiologists as necessary.
  • Develop and implement plans for patient care based on assessment data, and document preoperative care according to policy and procedure.
  • Provide comfort and reassurance to patients and support their right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Document postoperative care during the patient's recovery from anesthesia/sedation according to policies and procedures.
  • Monitor patients and inform surgeons or anesthetists of observed complications.
  • Prepare patients and their families for discharge, and review postoperative instructions and prescriptions from surgeons.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required; 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Current RN licensure in applicable state required.
  • CPI certification within three months of hire required for Behavioral Health, Emergency Department, and Central Staffing and Scheduling Office (CSSO).
Physical Demands

The job requires constant standing, frequent walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are required, as well as attention to detail and the ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. is also required.
