We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Nurse to join our team at The Portland Clinic. As a Clinical Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to a positive and supportive work environment.
Job Summary:The Clinical Nurse will be responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients, preparing equipment, and assisting providers during examinations and treatments. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide patient assessment, preparation for exam, and/or treatment, and assist providers as needed in diagnostic and/or surgical procedures and exams.
- Triage phone calls and walk-in patients, make assessments based on patient needs, and report to providers, document, and schedule as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers regarding patient care and any need for follow-up.
- Administer, call in medications, and document as ordered by providers, and maintain controlled substance records and policies as directed by The Portland Clinic policy.
- Manage a desk in an individual or group setting, organizing schedules, test scheduling and reporting, and referrals, and supply storage and ordering, care, preparation, and disposition of laboratory specimens, cleaning and preparing instruments and equipment for sterilization.
- Follow The Portland Clinic guidelines for documentation, including use of forms and computer data entry using Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
- Follow OSHA and The Portland Clinic guidelines and policies for the prevention of the spread of bloodborne pathogens, including maintaining a clean work environment, use of safety and personal protective equipment, and engineering controls.
- Maintain safety standards, including use of patient safety equipment, knowledge of emergency procedures, use of handrails on stairs, body mechanics, and ergonomics.
- Participate in code and triage team activities, maintain current BLS card, and attend nursing meetings and in-services.
- Participate in certain committees to represent the nursing staff, and counsel and educate patients regarding issues such as wound or injury care, diabetic teaching, symptom monitoring, back care, emotional issues, and other health care-related concerns.
- Provide a leadership and supervisory role for LPNs, MAs, and non-licensed personnel as appropriate, and maintain regular work attendance and punctuality.
- Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope of company business.
- Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervisors, coworkers, customers, and vendors, and abide by company policies.
- Assist/float to other departments as needed, and participate as an active care team member in a patient-centered medical home.
- RN graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Valid Oregon Nursing License.
- Current BLS.
- Basic understanding of Medical Terminology.
- Current diagnosis and procedural coding.
- Basic understanding of infection control.
- Legalities of charting and telephone conversations.

- Oral communication skills and excellent phone etiquette with an ability to convey and receive information via the telephone.
- Competency in language, grammar, and spelling.
- Ability to interact and establish a good rapport with people over the telephone and in person, often in stressful situations.
- Capability of effectively working on more than one task without a reduction in the quality of work and service performed.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure.
- Ability to accept responsibility and use initiative to proceed with necessary tasks without direct supervision.
