Medical Insurance Collections Specialist

This role involves filing insurance claims, managing patient accounts, and answering account status inquiries for optometry and ophthalmology patients. As a Medical Insurance Collections Associate at Atlantic Vision Partners, you will collect and enter claim information, follow up on unpaid and rejected claims, and assist with posting insurance and patient payments as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Filing Insurance Claims: Enter information necessary for insurance claims, such as patient insurance ID, diagnosis and treatment codes, modifiers, and provider information, ensuring that claim information is concise, complete, and accurate.
- Claim Submission: Submit insurance claims to clearinghouses or individual insurance companies electronically or via paper CMS-1500 form.
- Patient Communication: Answer patient questions on patient responsible balances, copays, deductibles, write-offs, etc., resolve patient complaints or explain why certain services are not covered, while demonstrating positive customer relationship skills with all telephone encounters.
- Follow-up and Re-submission: Follow up with insurance companies on unpaid or rejected claims, resolve issues, and re-submit claims.
- Appeal Letters: Prepare appeal letters to insurance carriers when not in agreement with claim denial, collecting necessary information to accompany the appeal.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical Skills: Computer skills that include a combination of experience in a Windows Operating System, e-mail, and data entry experience.
- Experience: Three to five years in insurance billing required.
- Soft Skills: Excellent judgment, dependability, and conscientiousness, demonstrated high ethical standards and integrity, attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
- Compensation: The estimated salary for this role is $55,000 - $65,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience.
