Project Engineer Job Description

RK&K is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our team in South Georgia. As a Project Engineer at RK&K, you will be responsible for managing complex bridge, urban, or interstate reconstruction projects and strengthening our CEI teams in South Georgia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and administer heavy civil, highway, and structures projects, including leading teams of Junior Project Engineers, Office Managers, Senior Inspectors, Inspectors, CPM Reviewers, and administrative staff.
  • Review monthly estimates, final estimates, change orders/supplemental agreements, and claims.
  • Facilitate preconstruction meetings, progress meetings, and pre-activity meetings.
  • Respond to questions that may arise in the field during construction and work to determine the appropriate solution.
  • Visit construction sites to monitor project progress and adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Manage project inspection staff and ensure their training and equipment needs are met.
  • Participate in plan reviews, project scoping meetings, and staffing projections.
  • Interact with clients and participate in project interviews, when necessary.
  • Perform miscellaneous support activities, as necessary.
Requirements:
  • Ten years of experience in roadway and structures construction.
  • Five (5) + years of experience managing construction projects in Georgia.
  • Advanced working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of GDOT manuals, policies, and procedures, including the Construction Manual.
  • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts; and interpret construction plans, provisions, standards, and specifications.
  • Ability to train, coordinate, and supervise inspection technicians in the field.
  • Understanding of QA/QC development and execution process.
  • Travel between job sites is expected, clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer or Certified Construction Manager.
  • Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • GDOT Worksite Erosion Control Supervisor (WECS).
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
  • GSWCC Level 1A.
  • Previous experience with GDOT, especially as Project Engineer.
  • Previous experience with GDOT Districts 1 and 2.
