POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Teacher will collaborate with the Lead Teacher to design and implement engaging classroom activities. This position requires active participation and may involve early morning responsibilities. Flexible availability, Monday through Friday, is a requirement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Lead Teacher in crafting and executing daily lesson plans.
- Engage actively with children during classroom activities.
- Facilitate communication with parents regarding their child's progress.
- Prepare necessary materials for daily educational activities.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and arrival/departure times.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of children at all times.
- Assist in organizing parent-teacher conferences as needed.
- Communicate effectively with the teaching team to ensure a cohesive approach.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned to ensure the effective operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.
COMPENSATION:
Hourly rate of $18.28; this is a part-time, non-exempt position (up to 25 hours per week).

QUALIFICATIONS:
An Associate's degree or Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is preferred; three to six months of experience in childcare or a related field is also preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and possess a genuine passion for working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Blood Borne Pathogen training.
- CPR Certification (to be obtained within the first 60 days).
- First Aid Certification (to be obtained within the first 60 days).
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance.
- Fingerprinting.
- DHS clearance.
- Negative T.B. skin test.
- Documentation of a physical exam.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Minimal local travel within Michigan may be required for training or educational events.
