About Project Kuiper
Project Kuiper is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing global broadband connectivity through a network of 3,236 satellites positioned in low Earth orbit (LEO). Our mission is to provide fast and affordable internet access to communities that are currently unserved or underserved around the globe.
Role Overview
We are in search of a skilled Senior Satellite Production Engineer to spearhead, develop, and scale the production of Kuiper satellites. This position will involve supporting operations during split shifts and weekends for the Kuiper Integration team, ensuring critical build and testing processes across multiple assembly lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage essential production activities from Wednesday to Sunday during split shifts, focusing on satellite final integration and phased array testing.
- Strategically plan and execute flight and non-flight build and test campaigns to align with the broader objectives of the Kuiper program.
- Collaborate with program leadership, production leads, test engineers, and fellow manufacturing engineers to coordinate daily satellite integration tasks, demonstrating adaptability to evolving schedules and priorities.
- Oversee the definition and setup of assembly lines and equipment necessary for satellite integration.
- Partner with the vehicle test team to establish robust testing procedures, protocols, and automated test definitions for the Kuiper satellite.
- Engage with facilities personnel to address building development and requirements.
- Optimize production costs and assembly line efficiency to meet ambitious build rates and budget targets.
- Define standards, requirements, and processes for manufacturing systems, work instructions, and troubleshooting of complex space hardware.
- Provide ongoing feedback and technical assessments on designs, processes, tools, and custom equipment utilized in both R&D prototyping and production environments.
- Assist in recruiting and training the technician and manufacturing engineering teams, particularly in new processes, procedures, and designs.
- Enhance and uphold safety standards through design reviews, process evaluations, regular audits, and safety initiatives.
Additional Requirements
- Flexibility to work various shifts as required.
- Physical capability to climb ladders, navigate tight spaces, and perform tasks involving bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs without assistance.
A Day in the Life
The Senior Satellite Production Engineer will collaborate closely with test, design, operations, tooling, quality, and enterprise teams on both first-article hardware development and production hardware integration processes and systems. This pivotal role will support production and development in a flexible manner as we transition from R&D to production operations.
The successful candidate will not only maintain operations during off-peak hours but will also drive improvements and scalability of the production line in partnership with other team members. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in guiding programs through full development cycles of space hardware, including development, qualification test procedures (QTP), and acceptance test procedures (ATP).
Basic Qualifications

- A minimum of 7 years of experience in developing, planning, and establishing manufacturing operations for automotive, medical devices, or space hardware.
- Availability to work Wednesday through Sunday on a split shift from Noon to 8 PM.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience leading manufacturing engineering teams, processes, facilities, and systems in both R&D and production environments.
- Hands-on expertise with mechanical, electrical, and/or propulsion systems.
- Familiarity with various automated manufacturing processes, including assembly and testing methods at component, subsystem, and system levels.
- Strong knowledge of QTP/ATP and production testing methodologies, as well as automated data acquisition and collection.
