Job Summary

The Humane Society Police Officer plays a vital role in Animal Friends' mission to prevent animal cruelty and promote animal welfare. This position is responsible for investigating reports of animal abuse and neglect, educating the public about animal welfare laws, and collaborating with other agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of animals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate reports of animal abuse and neglect, and take appropriate action to ensure animal safety and well-being.
  • Provide education and outreach to the public about animal welfare laws and best practices for animal care.
  • Collaborate with other agencies, including law enforcement and animal welfare organizations, to ensure a coordinated response to animal cruelty cases.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to promote animal welfare and prevent animal cruelty.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices and laws related to animal welfare.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 2+ years of education in social services or criminal justice preferred.
  • Professional experience in social services or law enforcement, with a focus on animal welfare or cruelty prevention.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Act 235 certification required within the first six months of employment.
  • Current HSPO certification.
  • Pennsylvania residency for 12 months prior to appointment required.
Working Conditions

The Humane Society Police Officer will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with frequent travel to investigate animal cruelty cases and participate in community outreach activities. The position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and to be on-call as needed.
