About the Role

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team in Coronado, California.

Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing cardiac ultrasonic procedures, obtaining necessary images, and preparing studies for interpretation by cardiologists. You will also review data, confer with medical personnel regarding results, and review medical records to identify significant medical history.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Echocardiogram Procedures
    • Utilize ultrasound modalities to visualize cardiac structures, prosthesis, and pertinent arterial and venous anatomy and flow of blood.
    • Obtain patient history and record information in patient charts.
    • Position patients and manipulate equipment to obtain desired quality and quantity of images for cardiologists' diagnostic interpretation.
  • Confer with Cardiologists
    • Discuss special patients with cardiologists to determine if areas other than those considered standard for a particular problem are to be imaged.
  • Assist with Transesophageal Echograms
    • Adjust and set up equipment, check functionality, sterilize probes, order and maintain supplies.
  • Perform Minor Adjustments and Maintenance
    • Perform minor adjustments on ultrasonic equipment and arrange service for any major repairs.
  • Respond to Stat Requests
    • Respond immediately to stat requests from physicians for patient ultrasonic examinations and relay findings to referring physicians by phone or by transmittal of examination reports.
  • Maintain Files and Logs
    • Maintain files and logs of all procedures, including recording on daily logs, processing reports, filing charts and tapes, pulling tapes, and setting up for physician review.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Graduate of an accredited echocardiography program or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Registration and Certification
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Adult Echocardiography Certification from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Additional Requirements
    • Ability to operate equipment to secure satisfactory recordings.
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to maneuver echocardiograph equipment which may exceed 500 lbs.
