GeoSearch is seeking a dedicated GIS Cadastral Mapping Technician to join our team. This role involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing our mapping capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Interpretation of Technical Documents: Analyze as-built drawings, construction plans, engineering schematics, recorded maps, deeds, legal descriptions, surveys, and related documentation to integrate them into GIS through methods such as coordinate geometry (COGO), digitizing, and GPS.
- Map Revision and Creation: Update existing Assessor GIS maps or create new ones using Esri ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Desktop software to reflect new developments, subdivisions, easements, annexations, and other boundary modifications.
- Base Map Maintenance: Ensure the upkeep of comprehensive base maps for assessment and various other applications.
- Information Provision: Deliver information regarding assessment maps, mapping processes, ownership history, and technical aspects of map preparation through written communication and phone inquiries.
- Legal Description Translation: Identify and reconcile legal descriptions, converting them into accurate scale drawings of properties.
- Map Interpolation: Accurately position changes between new and old maps in relation to adjoining parcels.
- Discrepancy Resolution: Address title discrepancies and incomplete property descriptions through thorough research and collaboration with relevant authorities.
- Quality Assurance: Adhere to quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) protocols, performing routine data management tasks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of GIS data.
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
- 2-5 years of experience working with cadastral data in an Esri GIS environment.
- Strong understanding of the Public Land Survey System.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting deeds, survey plats, and as-built documents.
- Familiarity with Esri COGO tools.
- Knowledge of contemporary cartographic standards and principles.
- Advanced skills in statistical analysis, mathematics, and methodologies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Minimal travel may be required.
