Examples of Duties
The Police Department in Northcentral Florida operates under a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Police Benevolent Association (PBA). Additional salary benefits are available for sworn personnel selected for specialized roles requiring specific qualifications or certifications.

The following compensation structure will apply, with a maximum of three special assignments:

A. Field Training Officer, add $1.20 to base hourly rate
B. FDLE High Liability Instructor, add $1.20 to base hourly rate
C. Evidence and Property, add $0.72 to base hourly rate
D. Special Teams, add $0.72 to base hourly rate
E. Critical Incident Response Team, add $0.72 to base hourly rate

Position Overview:


The Police Department provides comprehensive law enforcement services to the local community and surrounding areas.

This department operates continuously, ensuring safety and security on and around the campuses. The role involves performing sworn law enforcement duties.

Responsibilities include patrolling designated areas in a police vehicle; inspecting doors, windows, and properties to identify any suspicious activities.

Conducting or assisting in investigations of suspicious circumstances, complaints, or criminal activities is essential. Officers may also manage traffic, make arrests, and issue citations as part of traffic enforcement duties. Extended periods of standing may be required while directing traffic and managing crowds. Officers will face various weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be necessary. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet the criteria outlined in Chapter 943, Florida Statutes, and be eligible for certification as a law enforcement officer in Florida; one year of law enforcement experience is required.

Military or relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the required law enforcement experience. Relevant college coursework or vocational training may also substitute for the required experience. Candidates must obtain 911 telecommunications certification within their first two years of employment.

Preference will be given to candidates with 60 or more semester hours of college coursework from an accredited institution OR U.S. military personnel with two years of active service OR certified sworn law enforcement officers with one year or more of experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

Successful completion of the following is required: post-offer employment physical, including drug screening, psychological evaluation, polygraph testing, background check, fingerprinting, and possession of a valid Florida driver's license.

Reimbursement for training equivalency class fees is negotiable.


Officers are designated as critical personnel, providing essential support to the community and may be called back to duty during emergencies, disasters, or special events that coincide with class suspensions or office closures.
