Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Photo Archivist to join our team at The Trustees of Reservations Archives & Research Center in Sharon, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will be responsible for quality checking, processing, and digitizing approximately 25,000 slides and photographs from the Boston Natural Areas Network (BNAN) collection, as well as creating digital surrogates and cataloging items in our collection management system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Quality check and digitize 25,000 slides and photographs from the BNAN collection
  • Process and rehouse physical copies of photographic materials from the BNAN collection
  • Create digital surrogates and catalog items in our collection management system
  • Curate selections from the BNAN collection and the Col. John Ashley papers for online sharing
  • Assist in other archives-related duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in an archives setting with a focus on arrangement, description, digitization, and cataloging of archival materials
  • Master's degree from an ALA accredited library program or equivalent with advanced coursework in archival management
  • Proficiency in archival arrangement and description, including hands-on processing experience and knowledge of current approaches and standards for describing archives and graphic materials
  • Experience creating and editing catalog records in collection management software
  • Knowledge of best practices for handling, organizing, describing, and preserving photographic archives
  • Experience working with digital assets within an archives or special collections setting
  • Competency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and digital imaging applications, including Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills
