Join our team at Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare as a Prevention Specialist, where you will play a vital role in promoting healthy behaviors and preventing substance abuse among youth and families.
Key Responsibilities:- Accept referrals in a timely manner, complete screenings, intakes, and follow up on no-shows.
- Establish and maintain inter-agency relationships to promote services in the community.
- Link identified youth and families to community-based services and complete required prevention/intervention documentation within ten days.
- Develop and implement referral tracking systems to ensure services are delivered in a timely manner.
- Develop and implement evidence-based prevention groups, such as anger management, social skills, and coping skills.
- Participate as a community liaison and in prevention activities and school-based meetings to assist with appropriate service placement.
- Work collaboratively with other community agencies to develop, plan, and assist with the implementation of evidence-based substance abuse education programs.
- Provide general case management services for youth on an as-needed basis.
- Provide intervention services in a timely manner, as established by the State.
- Advocate for clients' rights and preferences.
- Provide supportive counseling services to children and adolescents who are identified as at risk for substance abuse issues.
- Plan and facilitate prevention-based groups for individuals who are identified as at risk for substance abuse issues.
- Document all activities as required by agency policies and procedures, submitting legible and accurate progress notes and logs to medical records within twenty-four hours of service.
- Comply with all state and federal requirements for confidentiality of substance abuse records.
- Complete billed hours reporting in data systems and meet productivity as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Develop and provide staff-related training on risk factors.

- Graduation from an accredited school with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or other relevant Human Services discipline.
- Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) preferred.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Skill in time and organizational management, with the ability to complete work under strict time lines while maintaining flexibility to assist with client issues/concerns.
- Ability to quickly assess situations and use sound judgment in diffusing potentially risky situations, with the ability to identify services needed by clients during the rehabilitation process.
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions and complete tasks as instructed.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports.
- Ability to communicate clearly with clients to develop a supportive and trusting relationship.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, medical and clinical professionals, educational systems, court systems, and the general public.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Knowledge concerning current information in the area of mental illness and substance abuse and treatment and related behavioral problems specific to the age and population served.
- Possession of a valid Florida driver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal automobile insurance if required to drive an SMA vehicle and/or use a personal vehicle for SMA business.
- Complete State of Florida mandatory background screening prior to start of employment.
- Complete SMA required training during the first six (6) months of employment and updated if required.
Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12 hour day. Able to lift minimum 10 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, intervene, treat, and record client health care needs. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate charting, daily correspondence, and presentation, either manually or orally. Work endurance ability to work 8-12 hour shifts with a meal break, as possible. Routine 8-12 hour shifts. Hours and days off may vary. Extra hours may be required. Work assignment locations may vary.
