As a Birth Certificate Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing birth certificates for submission to the California Department of Public Health Vital Statistics. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare birth certificates for submission to the California Department of Public Health Vital Statistics, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data.
  • Interview parents to gather information for birth certificate preparation, and analyze accuracy of documents for timely submission.
  • Manage all essential tasks related to birth certificate completion, including data gathering, typing forms, and obtaining signatures.
  • Ensure compliance with state vital statistics guidelines and regulations for birth certificate submission.
  • Accurately capture and enter data into the electronic birth registry system.
  • Obtain Voluntary Declarations of Parentage (VDOP) and act as a witness for patient signatures.
  • Facilitate communication between caregivers, departments, patients, and visitors, prioritizing and triaging incoming telephone calls.
  • Maintain accurate daily census and statistical information, such as outpatient logs.
  • Ensure confidentiality of patient records and information.
  • Attend department-specific education and training, and participate in staff meetings.
  • Assist with patient registration and serve as a mentor to new associates.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of hospital and patient registration experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Associate's degree or revenue cycle certifications.
  • Experience in a hospital or clinic environment, health insurance company, managed care organization, or other healthcare financial service setting.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology.
