Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary:
A Registered Nurse at UNC Health Care is a vital member of the patient care team who applies scientific principles and professional skills to provide holistic care for patients. With a focus on improving health and well-being, the RN works collaboratively with providers and interdisciplinary teammates to deliver high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize the nursing process to plan, provide, and document professional nursing care in accordance with provider orders, hospital standards, and established policies.
- Individualize patient care plans using professional judgment, considering patient needs and responses to care. Evaluate patient progress and update care plans accordingly.
- Provide care for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects. Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required for patient care plans.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with providers, interdisciplinary teammates, patients, and families.
- Follow systems that support the nursing process and deliver safe and effective patient care.
- Understand and comply with regulatory guidelines.
- Monitor and delegate tasks to other licensed or unlicensed teammates, providing direction, training, and guidance in the proper use, care, and control of material resources.
- Assist teammates in delivering nursing care and provide direct patient care as indicated.
- May act as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
- Participate in performance improvement activities, departmental committees, and other operational projects as assigned.
- Promote a safe, clean environment and present a professional demeanor at all times.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in North Carolina required.
- Competent in BLS and/or other specialized life support certifications as required by department.
- Additional certifications may be required by assigned department.
- At least one year of experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures.
- Ability to apply the nursing process appropriately.
- Ability to assess the nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients.
- Ability to perform independently within scope of practice and work collaboratively.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Good organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Proficient with EMR/Epic and able to learn new software rapidly.
