Role Summary:

The Equipment Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring operational efficiency by performing timely and thorough troubleshooting and repairs. This position encompasses the maintenance and repair of all production machinery, including injection molders, thermoforming equipment, extruders, fillers/cappers, labelers, case packers, conveyors, and stretch wrappers. Additionally, the Equipment Maintenance Specialist addresses issues related to facilities and auxiliary systems, such as chillers and air compressors.

Collaborating closely with Machine Operators, Supervisors, and Senior Technicians, you will tackle mechanical challenges that arise during operations and propose effective solutions to complex and recurring issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using schematics, technical drawings, and diagnostic tools.
  • Repair machinery, fixtures, systems, conveyors, and other facility equipment.
  • Modify, lubricate, and operate equipment according to QuantumPoly's established protocols.
  • Maintain industrial control systems specific to plastic packaging production.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively with team members to ensure repairs are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Assist Production Operators as needed.
  • Document repairs throughout shifts, completing necessary work order paperwork and tracking parts and material usage.
  • Adhere to plant safety regulations, including safe lifting practices and machine operation protocols.
  • Maintain consistent attendance to support equipment and facility uptime.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in a comparable maintenance role, ideally within plastic manufacturing or food packaging.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Experience with shop equipment, including hydraulic and mechanical presses, bench grinders, drill presses, and various power tools.
  • Proficient in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, dial indicators, and depth gauges.
  • Willingness to take on a leadership role and mentor others in specific areas of the plant.
  • Possession of a personal toolbox and essential tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in the plastic manufacturing or food packaging industries.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), servo drives, and servo motors.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, or plastics processing.
  • Experience with injection molding, thermoforming, and extrusion machinery.
  • Understanding of HVAC systems, including chillers and air compressors.
  • Skilled in fabrication techniques such as cutting and welding (MIG, TIG, or stick).
  • Experience working with electrical systems, including 480VAC and 24VDC power.
  • Ability to read and interpret process and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Experience with PLC systems and automation in packaging lines.
Education:
  • Required: High School Diploma
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree in manufacturing technology, mechatronics, plastics engineering, or a related field.
