Respiratory Therapist 2 Job Description

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist 2 to join our team. This full-time position involves working 36 hours per week, with three 12-hour night shifts and every other weekend. Responsibilities
  • Administers advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions, including heliox, nitric oxide, and chest wall oscillation, with moderate proficiency and occasional supervision.
  • Establishes and manages basic mechanical ventilation with high proficiency and minimal supervision.
  • Uses complex forms of mechanical ventilation, such as high-frequency oscillation and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, with moderate proficiency and occasional supervision.
  • Performs weaning mechanics as ordered with high proficiency in more than 90% of ventilator patients cared for.
  • Reviews the need for continuing ventilator support and develops or refines ventilator care plans, communicating with the patient care team.
  • Formulates a plan of care for patients based on diagnostic data, response to therapy, and physiologic profiles, ensuring that therapeutic plans are sound and consistent with departmental standards.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited CoARC respiratory care program.
  • At least six months of experience in a critical care environment or one or more years of specialized training in advanced diagnostics/pulmonary rehabilitation as a practicing Respiratory Therapist.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care or more than 10 years of experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.
  • Basic Life Support from AHA upon start, and Advanced Certifications (ACLS, PALS, or NRP) must be obtained within one year from date of hire.
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist and eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
