Mental Health Nurse Job Description

Mass General Brigham is seeking a skilled Mental Health Nurse to join our team at McLean Hospital in Medford, Massachusetts.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Nurse to provide direct patient care and participate in therapeutic milieu. The successful candidate will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and be responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients, maintaining professional boundaries, and participating in patient rounds or teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care and participate in therapeutic milieu
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and maintain professional boundaries
  • Participate in patient rounds or teams
  • Complete patient care assignments and identify patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis
  • Utilize non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate crisis situations
  • Communicate changes in patient status to RN and follow Standards of Care and protocols for assigned patients
  • Remain awake and alert at all times while on the job and perform Point of Care testing (POC)
  • Participate in planning and implementation of patient groups and provide patients with direction, support, and supervision as needed
  • Follow established Nursing policies, procedures, and protocols and participate in the maintenance of the unit environment to ensure safe care

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in direct patient care preferred
  • Verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work in collaboration with others
  • Mass General Brigham Job ID
