The Cottonseed Quality Assurance Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of cottonseed products. This position is essential for supporting the Quality Control Lab Supervisor in executing various testing procedures for fuzzy cottonseed, processed cottonseed, and carryover cottonseed.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting Truck Sampling
- Measuring Moisture and Temperature
- Assessing Free Fatty Acid levels
- Evaluating Genetic Purity
- Identifying Visual Mechanical Damage
- Monitoring Adventitious Presence
- Counting Seeds
- Testing pH levels
- Examining Seed Appearance
- Verifying Data
- Performing DNA testing
The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail and the capability to perform repetitive testing over extended periods while adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI). The role requires collaboration with colleagues on a daily basis and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Work EnvironmentThis position involves working in an indoor laboratory setting, with occasional duties in the Cotton Plant QA Lab. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, lab coats, gloves, safety boots, and hard hats will be provided and must be worn at all times.
Equipment and MaterialsIndividuals will interact with various industrial equipment, including:
- Hydraulic presses
- Vacuum samplers
- Autoclaves
- Seed dryers
- Shakers
- Centrifuges
Labware will include glass beakers, test tubes, micro-centrifuge tubes, petri dishes, pipette tips, and well plates. Safe handling of laboratory chemicals such as buffers, acids, oils, alcohol, seed treatments, and cleaning solvents is required.
Preferred BackgroundA background in biology, laboratory experience, or agriculture is preferred for this role.
