Job Title:

Licensed Practical Nurse - Preschool Program

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at Happiness House CP Rochester. As a LPN, you will be responsible for overseeing the health and safety needs of students in our preschool program, ensuring all health requirements are addressed and adhered to at all times.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide education and training to employees regarding the health needs of children in the program.
  • Impart agency philosophy of 'Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential' to children, families, program staff and community resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  • Review current health and immunization records of program participants for compliance with regulations of NYS Education Department, Department of Health and other state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Assist Supervisor of Health Services and QA in the development of an Individualized Health Plan (IHP) for children with significant medical needs.
  • Instruct staff on infection control and other current health related issues, which affect services to program participants and their families.
  • Certify staff in CPR and first aid per American Red Cross requirements, if certified as an instructor.
  • Administer medications and nursing procedures to program participants based upon established guidelines and agency policies.
  • Advise parents/guardians on health issues and practices during agency visits/parent conferences.
  • Facilitate referrals of program participants to community medical personnel and other appropriate community resources.
  • Promote preventative and wellness health services to families of program participants and staff as appropriate.
  • Administer first aid as needed in cases of student illness and accidents.
  • Assist with vision and hearing screenings and growth and assessment of program participants.
  • Participate in the reporting and filing of cases of suspected abuse or maltreatment to the NYS Child Abuse and Maltreatment Reporting Center.
  • Maintain Incident Report statistics reporting them to the agency Incident Review Committee.
  • Maintain communication as appropriate with parents and staff members concerning health issues of program participants.
  • Conduct emergency evacuation drills on a routine basis.
  • Supervise staff in case of emergency.
  • Maintain all paperwork as required by the agency and the Universal Pre Kindergarten collaborations, including monitoring completion and filing of Incident Reports.
  • Participate as a member of the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Functions as a member of various agency interdisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderly appearance of the nursing office and supplies.
  • Maintain employee medical files in a confidential manner.
  • Provide health and safety orientation to new employees.
  • Oversee and ensure employee health files are current.
  • Participate in conferences, workshops and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
Requirements:
  • New York State Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • One to two years of clinical experience, preferably including work with young children with disabilities.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid, certification as an instructor preferred.
  • Valid NYS driver's license.
Work Environment:

This job operates in a preschool program environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day but employee will be expected to work at any of our partner agencies.
