Job Title: Surgical Physician Assistant

Montefiore Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Physician Assistant to join our Obstetrics and Gynecology team in Bronx, New York.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide medical services within the education, training, and experience of a surgical physician assistant, as delegated by the supervising Chief PA and Medical PA Director for Women's Health OBGYN.

Responsibilities:
  • Obtain patient histories and perform physical examinations
  • Write progress notes, procedure notes, and monthly care plans
  • Order and/or perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Formulate a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan
  • Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
  • Offer counseling and education to meet patient needs
  • Make appropriate referrals
  • Perform first assist in the operating room
  • Assist in preforming D & C or D&E
  • Apply and remove surgical dressings
  • Remove sutures and/or staples
  • Perform venipuncture
  • Debride wounds
  • Consult with patients in the emergency room and on the floor
  • Admit patients, follow up with patients in service, and write daily progress notes
  • Order and interpret diagnostic labs and imaging
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care
  • Obtain informed consents as needed
  • Update the beta list
  • Insert prostaglandins for medical termination
  • Perform endometrial, cervical, vaginal, and vulva biopsies
  • Access port-a-caths
  • Coordinate care at the time of discharge for safe transfer to outpatient care
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant program
  • Registered as a Physician's Assistant in New York State
  • NCCPA certified
  • BLS required
