Steel Industrial Coater

The Steel Industrial Coater position within the steel department at The Q Works Group will utilize a protective, rust-inhibiting coating to apply a finish to all fabricated steel products moving through the steel line. Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of one (1) year of experience in industrial or construction coating applications. The ideal candidate will be a hard worker with strong attention to detail, able to work effectively in a team-based environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
• Ensure that coating equipment, tips, respirators, and booth areas are clean and in good working condition.
• Verify that coating supplies are adequate for daily tasks.
• Responsible for applying coatings to all beams, columns, and other items processed through the steel line, ensuring that all products are coated in the back coating booth.
• Responsible for replacing coating gun sprayer tips after every 75 to 80 gallons of coating applied.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the steel line coating booth, shot blaster, back coating booth, wood-cutting area, steel loading area, and outside areas on a daily basis.
• Assist with cutting of boards and loading and strapping of steel on trailers and in enclosed areas as needed.
• Assist with the cleaning of the shot blaster when necessary.
• Clean and change filters on all coating pumps daily.
• Responsible for replacing protective wallpaper and protective floor covering in all coating booths as needed, ensuring that all wall and floor areas are covered.
• Replace filters in all coating booths. The steel line coating booth filters are to be changed out two or more times weekly, depending on roll media use. Back booths are to be replaced as needed using the same roll media (cut to size).
• Responsible for keeping all conveyor rollers, paddle conveyors, and paddle conveyor chains free of coating and clean at all times.
• Inform supervisor when coating supplies need to be reordered.
• Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in industrial or construction coating applications.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow instructions and provide consistent work.

Education and Experience:

• Completion of a formal apprenticeship program, previous experience, or on-the-job training is a plus.
• High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing and coating.
• Must have adequate balance and ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
