Steel Industrial Painter

The Steel Industrial Painter function within the steel department will use a protective, rust-prohibitive paint to coat all fabricated steel coming through the steel line. Qualified candidates must have at least one (1) or more years of Industrial or Construction Painting experience. The desired candidate will be hardworking; have strong attention to detail; and the ability to work well in a team-based, collaborative environment.
Pay Rate: $18-20/hr. based on skill and experience.
Schedule: Monday through Friday 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM with weekend overtime potential as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains a clean and well-organized work area at all times.
- Assures that paint guns, tips, respirators, booth area and all other necessary tools are clean and in good working condition.
- Makes sure that paint supply is adequate for the daily tasks.
- Responsible for painting all beams, columns, and other items that are sent through the steel line and assures that all products are coated in the back paint booth.
- Responsible for replacing paint gun sprayer tips following every 75 to 80 gallons of paint sprayed.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the steel line paint booth, shot blaster, back paint booth, wood-cutting area, steel loading area and outside area on a daily basis.
- Assists with cutting of boards and loading and strapping of steel on the trailers and in enclosed areas when needed.
- Assists with the cleaning of the shot blaster when needed.
- Cleans and changes the filters on all paint pumps daily.
- Responsible for replacing protective wallpaper and protective floor covering in all paint booths as needed, assuring that all wall and floor areas are covered.
- Replaces filters in all paint booths. The steel line paint booth filters are to be changed out two or more times weekly depending upon roll media use. Back booths are to be replaced as needed using the same roll media (cut to size).
- Responsible for keeping all conveyor rollers, paddle conveyors and paddle conveyor chains free of paint and clean at all times.
- Informs supervisor when paint supplies need to be re-ordered.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have at least one (1) or more years of Industrial or Construction Painting experience
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions and provide consistent work.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program, previous experience, or on-the-job training a plus.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and painting.
- Must have adequate balance and ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
