Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Accounts Supervisor to join our team at UNC Health. As a key member of our Patient Financial Services department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the timely and effective management of patient accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Identify and report issues that may impact customer satisfaction and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the PFS manager to design, coordinate, and implement policies and procedures that align with team standards and goals.
  • Monitor work environment and initiate efforts to ensure colleague satisfaction, conducting daily and weekly meetings to review issues and keep staff informed.
  • Coach, counsel, and appraise staff regarding performance and disciplinary matters in accordance with Healthcare policy.
  • Maintain accounts receivable within acceptable levels by ensuring accurate coding and reporting.
  • Investigate edit errors and denials, identifying and resolving coding problems to optimize cash flow.
  • Maintain internal controls to ensure customer satisfaction while minimizing accounts receivable.
  • Prepare reports and analyze data to identify problem areas and implement workflow efficiencies.
  • Support immediate management through cross-training and vacancy coverage.
  • Collaborate with IT and PFS management to resolve system problems and modify reports.
  • Provide system support to staff, determining if issues are procedural or system-related.
  • Coordinate and oversee operational activities of Patient Financial Services.
  • Develop short-term and long-term goals for staff, creating effective monitoring processes to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Develop policies and procedures to enforce corporate compliance regulations.
  • Confer with management to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training for employees.
  • Develop and conduct training sessions on specified areas, including new employee orientation, on-the-job training, and computer software use.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of related experience and/or training
  • Language skills: ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Mathematical skills: ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Computer skills: ability to use hospital and medical claims processing software
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Proficient keyboarding skills

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. This is not a State employed position.
