Role SummaryThe Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the operating room, assisting physicians with advanced tasks and equipment during surgical procedures. The position requires the ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment while utilizing effective communication skills to meet organizational service goals and foster a positive work atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare for surgical procedures by assessing patients and reviewing their medical history, diagnostics, and lab results.
- Develop and implement a patient-specific care plan in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, adjusting as necessary based on patient needs.
- Ensure all necessary supplies and instruments are ready and the operating room is properly set up.
- Document surgical procedures accurately and timely in the patient record, ensuring compliance with policies.
- Maintain aseptic technique and participate in the counting of surgical instruments and materials.
- Assist with the turnover of the operating room between cases, including restocking and cleaning duties.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new surgical staff and students as needed.
- Adhere to safety protocols regarding medication handling, specimen management, and infection control.
- Minimum Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing
- Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Minimum Experience: One year of operating room experience in an acute care setting
- Preferred Experience: One year in a Level 1 trauma operating room setting
- Required Licenses/Certifications: Current RN license in the state of practice, BLS certification, ACLS certification
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours
- On-call Requirement: Yes
