Overview

This role is situated within the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) sectors of the Logistics Service in a Veterans Health Administration (VHA) system. The main objective of this position is to guarantee the effective distribution of supplies and materials across all serviced areas by Logistics.

It is essential to possess a valid driver's license.

This position is available exclusively to permanent employees of the Veterans Health Administration.

Key Responsibilities

Supply Distribution (70%)
  • Oversees inventory levels at both primary and secondary storage locations for all clinical and administrative departments. This includes extracting inventory and materials from the main storage for distribution; replenishing stock; engaging with clinical and administrative personnel to identify and address issues; maintaining accurate records of inventory levels; suggesting adjustments in stock levels as necessary; and communicating any supply-related concerns to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists.
  • Regularly checks expiration dates, rotates stock to minimize waste, and removes outdated items from circulation.
  • Assists management in verifying inventory for recalled items and alerts regarding hazards; ensures critical supplies are closely monitored and controlled, addressing discrepancies when feasible, and escalating significant issues to Inventory Management Specialists.
  • Conducts daily inventory checks at designated points using barcoding technology according to a set schedule to facilitate timely replenishment orders.
  • Addresses discrepancies between inventory records and physical counts.
Inventory Control - Receiving (30%)
  • Processes incoming supplies and materials into the VHA system.
  • Unpacks and organizes supplies from shipping containers; appropriately stores items in main inventory areas.
  • Follows established protocols for storage to maintain the integrity and sterility of supplies, utilizing a computerized inventory management system. Through routine inventory checks and discussions with clinical staff, maintains stock levels, returns reusable items to distribution, and informs personnel about new or modified supplies and their shelf life.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Virtual Work: This position is not eligible for virtual work.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples include providing supplies and materials to clinical and administrative areas of a healthcare facility; managing inventory through scanning and barcoding; maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; and addressing customer inquiries regarding supplies.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. Completion of 4 years of education beyond high school in any relevant field is acceptable.

Combination: A combination of specialized experience and education may also qualify at this level.
