Memory Care Medication Technician

We are seeking a skilled Medication Technician to join our Memory Care team at Watercrest Senior Living. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the day-to-day medication management program of our Memory Care residents is provided in an accurate, sensitive, professional, and effective manner.
Key Responsibilities- Distribute prescribed medication to residents and maintain related medical records under the supervision of the Resident Wellness Director, ensuring compliance with current regulations.
- Presents medication to residents as required by the Medication Order Record (MOR) and observes ingestion or other application, or assists in the administration of medication, using specified procedures.
- Takes vital signs or observes residents to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares reports or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
- Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered, held, changed, disposed of, discontinued, or returned on the MOR.
- Reviews and participates in 24-Hour Reports, Daily Logs, Shift Cross-over Reports, and verbal reports as needed.
- Monitors medications to ensure adequate accountability measures are taken when medications are ordered, received into the community, administered, and at change of shift, as required by policy and procedures.
- Respects residents' rights regarding medication.
- Notifies the Wellness Nurse (Licensed Practical Nurse) or Resident Wellness Director (Director of Nursing) of unauthorized medication held by the resident.
- Seeks advice from the Wellness Nurse or Resident Wellness Director prior to administering any medication that does not seem correct.
- Understands and can explain the medication dosage/pharmacology when necessary.
- Refrains from giving any PRN medications as required by law (if applicable by state).
- Completes incident and accident reports and documentation timely.
- Reports changes in resident condition to RWD or Nurse designee immediately.
- Refrains from providing any treatment that does not fall under their specific licensing.
- Assists residents with their personal care and activities of daily living as assigned and as requested by residents.
- Performs daily housekeeping tasks as assigned using established procedures and standards.
- Responds to resident emergency calls.
- Assures that established infection control practices are maintained.
- Reports all hazardous conditions and equipment to the supervisor.
- Assures the equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of each shift.
- Reports all accidents and incidents as soon as possible to your supervisor, no matter how minor.
- Maintains the confidentiality of residents' personal care information.
- Honors residents' personal and property rights.
- Must be in company uniform and resident ready at all times.
- Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, team members, residents, family members, vendors, referral sources, and outside contacts.
- Able to make independent decisions.
- Must be able to communicate in a warm, friendly, and caring manner.
- Must possess a passion to work with and around senior citizens.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- License/Certificate for Medication Assistance as required per state regulations.
- CPR certification/First Aid certification.
- Experience as a Resident Caregiver or Med Tech preferred.
- The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
- Able to stand or walk 75% of the day.
- Able to concentrate with frequent interruptions.
- Able to work under stress and in emergency situations.
- Able to work under conditions that require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pulling, pushing, and grasping.
- Able to talk and hear effectively in order to convey messages, instructions, and information to residents and team members.
- Occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
